No Hype

No Hype

Young Canadians live for concerts and festivals but barely notice the country’s biggest music award show. The JUNOs sit in the back of people’s minds and don’t captivate the same excitement as other music events. Younger audiences engage with music differently. Today’s young fans value energy, connection, and shared live moments over traditional broadcasts.

The idea was to shift the JUNOs from a traditional awards show into a festival-style event that actually feels live, social, and built for today’s music scene. The identity was designed to bring the same loudness and energy that younger audiences bring to the show. Audio visualizers were used as they represent sound while also reflecting the vibrant colours newer audiences are drawn to.

Outcome

The reimagined JUNOs identity pushed the awards show closer to a live, festival-driven experience that feels aligned with how younger audiences engage with music today. Beyond the visual system, the project led to technical exploration as well. I designed and programmed a tool that generated consistent brand elements across different applications using code and AI, and built a custom typographic motion tool to translate sound into movement. Working alongside Sachin Tartamella, there was a strong sense of unity and creative harmony that made experimentation feel natural and collaborative.

Reflection

This project changed how I see myself as a designer. I became more comfortable stepping into the unknown and exploring new tools instead of staying within what I already knew. Learning to combine design, coding, and AI showed me that creativity is not limited to one medium. I now approach projects with more confidence in experimenting, building systems, and finding faster, smarter ways to execute ideas.
